CareerJournal | Chapter 5: Money Is a Touchy Subject For Jobless Professionals
CareerJournal | Chapter 5: Money Is a Touchy Subject For Jobless Professionals: "we're spending; I also have to think about the money we aren't saving. If I listen to financial experts such as syndicated columnist Jane Bryant Quinn, I should be saving $200 a day for my year-old daughter's college fund. (OK, maybe it's more like $200 a month.) Even when we're flush, we aren't socking away this kind of money.
If you believe these financial gurus, every American "

Now your domain can live longer than you do!
Here's some FUNNY stuff! Network Solutions is now offering you the ability to purchase your domain for a CENTURY, at the low, low price of $999.00. Kids, that's only $9.99 per year! Think of it, you can pass this on to your children, and your children's children. Never mind that it only costs around $6 a year to register a domain, one year at a time, this gets the "stupid ways to spend a $1000" award in my book!

Web Server Software and Presidential Candidates
Ok, I'll admit that this has nothing to do with the job search (except, I guess, for the candidates, who are all seeking that one specific job!), but I thought it was interesting nonetheless. Check out the details on each of the web sites for these presidential hopefuls and see how they stack up for security, load time, and more. Excuses, exuses
Sorry for not keeping the blog up to date this past week - this is what I've been tied up with: Nederland Internet Resources, Nederland CO

To make a long story short, the failed communication mechanisms on FixNed.org were reborn this week on NederlandInternet.com, a site which I already had and which was ripe for a redesign. With a Google PR of 4, it already had a decent traffic base so it seemed like a good enough spot to host the candidate profiles and other election information which the Citizens for Open Government objected to having on my other web site, FixNed.org. So much for open communications, but in the end I think it will be OK.

The site also has information on local businesses and internet access in the mountains, as well as user polls and much more.

Those who can't work, volunteer
Volunteering is an excellent way to chew up some of the extra time on your hands if you're in-between full-time paying jobs. The downside to volunteering is that people don't always appreciate the work you're doing, since it's free.

FixNed.org | Nederland, Colorado

Here is a web site I recently built for a political action committee called "Citizens for Open Government" (COG) in Nederland, Colorado, who professed to be all about "open government" and "open communications", at least until this term no longer suited their purposes.

I built a Candidate Profile Manager ™ which allowed each individual canidate to build and update their own candidate profile on the web site. When COG insisted that all of the candidates except the ones they support be kicked off the web site, that was the end of it.

FixNed.org as a web site may have had the shortest life span in internet history - born on Sunday, March 7 and killed on Friday, March 12th. Rest in Peace.
